not in my neighborhood.

I keep reading horror stories from the gulf.

Over 82 million gallons of oil spilled into the gulf.

Livelihoods destroyed.

Death tolls are staggering.

11 people dead.
432 sea turtles dead.
50 dolphins dead.
Countless sea birds and fish dead.

But this really brought it home.

First I put the map on Tulsa. Yeah… it covered a lot of area, but pretty much bypassed anything I care about. Sorry, Kansas.

Then I moved the map to my hometown. The place where my parents live. Then it hit me.

If the oil spill had happened in some theoretical universe with McAlester at its center, every major city in Oklahoma would be gone. Not to mention our neighbors to the east… Sorry, Arkansas.

And there’s nothing I can do… Except read the news, listen to NPR, get pissed off, cry and vow to ride my bike more often.

    Yes. and Yes.

I am honestly terrified for what will soon come… basically how our lives are going to slowly and dramatically change forever.
